Lawn Verticutting

Lawn Verticutting is a mechanical process that slices the ground to loosen soil compaction and thatch buildup.  Reducing soil compaction allows for better root growth and a healthier lawn.  Thatch buildup occurs naturally, and some thatch is necessary for a quality lawn.  Although, too much thatch can detour healthy grass and create an ideal environment for pests.  Verticutting loosens that thatch, which is raked out and removed before seeding.  This process is used during seeding and allows for better soil to seed contact to increase seed germination. Lawn Aeration

Lawn Aeration is a mechanical process that corks the ground to loosen soil compaction and assists in naturally reducing thatch buildup.  This process is recommended on a yearly basis, generally in the fall, for a thick healthy lawn.  Reducing soil compaction allows for deeper root growth and a healthier lawn.  It also allows the soil to obtain oxygen and naturally provides nutrients to the soil.  Naturally reducing thatch buildup is another benefit of aerating.  Corks of soil are pulled out and left on the ground so they can decompose back into the soil.  This naturally keeps thatch at an optimum level and promotes horticulture. Overseeding Lawn

Overseeding is a process used in addition to verticutting and aerating.  After mechanically working the soil it is best to seed the lawn to take advantage of all the benefits affiliated with these processes.  Overseeding fills in bare spots and restores your lawn to a nice green color.  After about four years grass tends to decline in general health and vigor.  Regular seeding will keep your lawn young, healthy, and thriving. Watering Instructions for Newly Seeded Lawns

Newly seeded lawns require special irrigation. Water your newly seeded lawn daily and may need as many as four light waterings in a single day. Keep the seedbed moist, but not saturated, to a depth of 1 to 2 inches until germination occurs (grass seedlings are ¼ to ½ inches tall). Seedlings of a new lawn must not be stressed to the point of wilt. Continue with light applications of water- 1/8 to ¼ inches one to four times per day. Watering with a light mist is best for establishing new lawns. As seedlings reach 2 inches in height, gradually reduce the frequency of watering and water more deeply. After the new lawn has been mowed two or three times, deep, infrequent watering is best. In absence of rain, water established turf between 1 to 1.5 inches per week.
